About TundraSpark

An independent website that explains residential electrical work in Anchorage, Alaska, in plain language — and, if you want it, can pass your request to a referral partner.

What this site is

TundraSpark is an information and referral website. We research and publish guides on topics Anchorage homeowners run into — winter backup power, panel capacity, permits, licensing, heat cable and more — with sources cited on each page.

What this site is not

  • We are not an electrical contractor and do not perform electrical work.
  • We do not employ electricians, hold electrical or contractor licenses, or have an office in Alaska.
  • We do not license, vet, inspect, insure or guarantee any service provider.
  • We are not affiliated with the Municipality of Anchorage, the State of Alaska, Chugach Electric, Matanuska Electric Association or any equipment manufacturer.

How we make money

The site is supported by referral fees. When you call the phone number shown on this site, your call is answered by a third-party lead-generation partner, and we may be paid for that call. That compensation does not change the information on our guides, and you never have to submit anything to read them. Details are in our Referral and Compensation Disclosure.

How we research content

  • We prefer primary sources: the Anchorage Municipal Code and Assembly ordinances, State of Alaska licensing agencies, utilities, NOAA and the U.S. Census Bureau.
  • Where we rely on news reporting or secondary sources, we say so, and we flag statements that need further verification.
  • We avoid inventing local details. If we could not verify something — a ZIP boundary, a permit exemption — we tell you rather than guess.
  • Each research-heavy page shows the date it was last reviewed.
